Is there a relationship between hives and what we eat?
In the case of CSU – chronic spontaneous urticaria – we know that it is not external causes or anything we do that causes the symptoms.
It took me a while to find out about this! And there is often confusion about what could really be happening.
That is why it is so important, first of all, to better understand the urticaria classification, in all its types.
If you, like me, have already gone on some diets because of hives, this content will be very nostalgic!
I remember having little notebooks writing down item by item of what I ate and drank every day and then making a list of the symptoms that might appear a little later.
Then came that madness, trying to remember, not forget... and when I forgot?
The feeling it gave me was that I was always missing an item, because when I noticed the symptoms and tried to establish a cause and effect relationship, it always went wrong.
Because it was a fact: the symptoms always appeared, I removed a certain food, but nothing improved. Hmmm, so it was simple: I must have been forgetting something!
There is an exaggerated tendency among us to put villains in everything, and in this case of urticaria, why not what we eat and what we drink?
What is mainly common to happen is confuse chronic hives with acute. Acute urticaria, yes, is often linked to more specific things, such as a reaction to food, for example, and occurring a few hours after ingestion.
In truth, food allergy is not a frequent cause of chronic urticaria. At the same time, there are studies that suggest diets can contribute to treatment. These studies have not yet fully confirmed this hypothesis.
There is scientific evidence that most foods rich in dyes and preservatives are not directly related to chronic urticaria attacks. There are also foods considered rich in histamine, which are also included in this diet, andThese foods make a difference for many people when eliminating them from their eating routine.
You can talk to your doctor about this, and see how your day-to-day response improves or worsens when you eat these foods – rich in dyes and preservatives and histamine.
For all intents and purposes, a diet without these additives (dyes, preservatives, canned foods) will always be healthier for those who have hives or not.
Eliminating or reviewing certain habits in our diet will certainly do us a lot of good.
