In my last year of college, in 2014, pimples started to appear on my body.
It started on the legs and arms, until it spread to the whole body. I went to the emergency room many times and they said it was allergies, gave me antihistamines and sent me away. The pimples started to appear every day and on worse days my lips and eyes would swell. I went to so many doctors that I lost count, I changed laundry detergents, shower gels, bought anti-mite covers and pillows, I stopped eating countless things and it didn't get better. I cried a lot, I was anxious and stopped doing things I liked…
6 months later, 6 months of a lot of money spent, 6 months of suffering, I found a doctor who was studying chronic urticaria, but at the time the treatments were not yet known and I took daily corticosteroid medication. It was a relief... 4 months later my hives stopped appearing and remained that way until last year.
In June 2018 I started having attacks again and used corticosteroids again, but the normal dose was no longer enough and I didn't want to take any more. I looked a lot and found a doctor who specialized in chronic urticaria.
Now I'm only taking antihistamines daily, the disease is under control, I'm monitored by a fantastic doctor and I can now lead a normal life. Go out, go to the beach, without waking up in a panic every day afraid of how I look.
Thank you for helping to spread awareness about the disease. Kisses from Portugal
